WHAT: 100-year-old Nannette Fishman and 26 members of the Atria Senior Living Rowing Club will row in 52’ sculls, with Sagamore Rowing Association coaches and students on Tuesday, September 24th at 2:30 pm on Oyster Bay. Under the coaching of Jason Moskowitz, Director Sagamore Rowing Association, the Atria athletes have been training since the Spring. Their first attempt was postponed due to thunderstorms in June so there is tremendous excitement from the rowers, their families, Sagamore Rowing Association coaches, students and local elected officials to experience this historic event.

Atria is the only senior living company in the country offering residents a competitive rowing club. To date, 70 resident rowers have set a combined 48 World and American Indoor Water Rowing records. Now, rowers from seven of Atria’s communities in Long Island and across the sound are participating in an on-water, intergenerational event.

“A lifelong commitment to staying physically and mentally active is the hallmark of aging well,” said Gallucci, “These older adults have taken a serious approach to living healthier by challenging themselves physically and trying new things. Our residents are examples and inspirations to others by demonstrating you can set and achieve goals at any age.”

Accomplishment, cheering supporters and more challenges wait for the rowers at the finish line as the senior living residents eye another chance to set records in the future. Donations to Sagamore Rowing Association will be accepted at the event supporting the organization’s commitment to get people of every age on the water.
