Building Long Island's Rowing Tradition
"The Crew Club of Oyster Bay recently returned from the NY State Rowing Championships in Saratoga Springs victorious with five boats qualifying for the U.S. Rowing Jr. National regatta in Oak Ridge, Tenn. next month.
Overall, seven boats placed in the top three with medals, and five of those medaling gold or silver. Competing in the state championship regatta against more than 600 boats, these high school athletes competed over two days through heats, semi-finals and then finals. The weather on Fish Creek in Saratoga was white caps, wind and at times, pounding rain. That does not stop rowers and our crews really pushed through it and took the medals home. Some crews had less than one second to the next boat and fought to maintain their position."
